The original line-up of Jane's Addiction - Perry Farrell (vocals), Dave Navarro (guitar), Eric Avery (bass) and Stephen Perkins (drums) - released two studio albums before parting ways all too soon: Nothing's Shocking, their 1988 major label debut, and Ritual de lo Habitual, its equally sprawling 1990 follow-up. The disc made the Top 20 on Billboard's pop albums chart, and was an alt-rock phenomenon during 1991's inaugural Lollapalooza -a tour that was conceived by Perry Farrell and became Jane's farewell for many years. Rhino's 180-gram vinyl reissue of Ritual De Lo Habitual brings this modern rock masterpiece back with shockingly great fidelity.
Like Nothing's Shocking, Ritual De Lo Habitual was selected by Rolling Stone as one of the 500 Greatest Albums Of All Time. The publication noted that it "became the sound of the Lollapalooza Nation: Led Zeppelin bravado with goth eyeliner." Among its classic tracks are Stop!, Classic Girl, Three Days and Been Caught Stealing, which Rolling Stone calls an "insanely catchy ode to shoplifting," and Perry Farrell's "proudest moment."
