The Montreal trio are a raw and lean explosion of garage, no wave, klezmer, noise, blues, metal and Japanese punk, yet they somehow manage to make sense out of the chaos. The band’s debut release is a 7” for the intense and catchy single “Rip My Heart Out”. The title track fuses the heaviness of Motorhead with an explosive slide guitar while the B-side offers a shredding lo-fi male/female duet version of “Please Don't Touch”. Devil Eyes have been making their own style of experimental dance punk, but check influences like Guitar Wolf, Bob Log III, Comets on Fire, Les Rallizes Dénudés and Captain Beefheart as well as bands like ESG and The Contortions.
The Devil Eyes' self titled album will be released in the fall of 2009. (Signed by Force Records)
