Hi there. Welcome to our painting tutorial for our Woodsman's Cottage. Firstly - we are quite happy to admit that there are far better painters than us out there - we know that. This is a guide for those people who like the way we've painted the Cottage. There are certainly plenty of other ways which this cottage could be painted.  We use Citadel paints so all references to colour are by the Citadel name.

For this you'll need: Chaos Black spray paint, Calthan Brown, Scorched Brown, Snakebite Leather, Bleached Bone, Skull White, Ogryn Flesh Wash, Regal Blue, Ultra Marine Blue and Arctic Blue.

Step 1) - Build the cottage.

We built our cottage first.  You don't have to of course - you can prepaint the pieces if you want to but it's not really necessary.

Step 2) - Undercoat.

We spray painted our cottage black using Chaos Black.  We then went over areas where the spary paint was a little bit light and painted them with black ink to get into the gaps.  Normally we'd use black pigment in our resin and we'd be able to skip this step.  (Black pigmented resin will be available soon).

Step 3) - Painting the roof.

The roof is made of shingles so a wooden colour is was appropriate.  The combination we used could be replaced by pretty much any wooden type of colour from a much darker brown through to a weathered grey/blue.   After making sure that the ink had dried we dry brushed Calthan Brown on the shingles.  Once this had dried we then dry brushed Snakebite Leather and finally very lightly drybrushed Bleached Bone.  We used an old Citadel tank brush for doing this - but remember that dry brushing will stuff up your brush so either use only dry brush brushes or older brushes which are worn.

Step 4) - Painting the walls.

A layer of bleached bone was painted on the walls while avoiding the support timbers (or trying to anyway) followed by a careful brushing of a watered down Ogryn Flesh wash around the edges of each panel.  We then used a tissue to get rid of most of the wash.  This gave the wall sections a subtle weathered/water stained look without too much effort.

Step 5) - Painting the window.

A layer of Regal Blue was painted on the glass, followed by a dry brushed layer of Ultra Marine Blue and finally a light dry brush of Arctic Blue followed.

Step 6) - Painting the beams/door/windowframe.

We painted a layer of Scorched Brown on all of the beams, the door and the window frame.  This was the most time consuming part of painting this model (and made worse by the Bleached Bone we'd slopped onto the beams in Step 4 - if you're careful with the Bleached Bone painting the beams will be a lot faster as any bits you miss will look like shadows).  We then dry brushed the beams with Snakebite Leather and finally carefully brushed on a Skull White highlight on the very edges of the beams.

Step 7) - The door handle.

Finally, we painted the door handle with a layer of shining gold to make it stand out - although pretty much any of the metallic paints would have worked for this.
