Description

Eagle China (Austria) cup and saucer, with Perkenhammer (Austria) TITANIC plate all hand-painted with pink cabbage roses and gold trim. Based on the back stamps these are circa 1900. The set appears to have been assembled by the (unnamed) painter as the three all carry the same pattern.

Cup measures about 3 inches diameter (without handle) by 2 1/4 inches high, saucer measures about 5 1/2 inches diameter, plate measures about 7 1/4 inches diameter.

Some wear to gilt, otherwise excellent condition.

There is some controversy or confusion about the TITANIC mark on the Perkenhammer plate with some claiming (including Perkenhammer) that the goods were made for the ill-fated White Star Line ship while others claim there is no evidence to support the theory. Nevertheless, this is an excellently preserved set, well over 100-years old with a lovely design.
