The following information should help you decide which shipping option to use by giving you the pros and cons of each delivery method.

 

 

  Media Mail | First Class Mail | Priority Mail | Qualifying Media Mail Items
Cost is more important than speed

PROS - Low Shipping Cost

It is much cheaper to send books, CDs, and other media mail qualified items through 1st class mail or priority mail. The first pound is only $2.23 and each additional pound is 35 cents.

Insurance is available. It costs $1.70 for up to $50.

CONS - Slow Speed

All other forms of USPS shipment get priority over media mail.

Between Thanksgiving and Christmas and at tax time the speed of delivery can be slower than the USPS's advertised 2-9 business days.
There is no guarantee on the speed of delivery.

Delivery to Alaska and Hawaii can take 3-6 weeks!

Quick delivery for low weight items

PROS

Faster shipping speed than media mail
Cheaper than media mail for packages that weigh under 8 ounces

CONS
Limited to 13 ounces
Cost is generally higher than media mail for media mail qualified items

Speed is more important than cost

PROS
Faster shipping speed (2-3 days generally)
Flat rate envelopes and boxes are available that can sometimes reduce cost

CON

More expensive than other shipping methods and can make purchasing certain items cost prohibitive.
