Good for half a smoke then burned through
My wife, for whatever reason wanted the MacArthur and a General (which she gave to me). She loaded-up the Mac for the first time and part way down the bowl it burned through the side wall of the bowl. I cut the bowl in 2 to determine why the pipe failed into just one smoke. Clearly, I could see the charred kernel rows of the cob. Comparing this to the relatively smooth-bores of my General, which I already have more than 10 bowls through it with no problem, and my Gentleman, which has closer to 200 bowls through it, I was able to determine that the Mac was either bored-out too large or was too small a cob to be turned into a pipe. The lesson to be learned here is never buy a cob that does not have a relatively smooth bore. If you can see the kernel rows in the bowl, it WILL fail and fail very fast. If you order online, demand that the pipe be inspected for a smooth bore. Scott was kind enough to replace the pipe and is now aware of this defect. My confidence in Aristocob remains, and I will continue to buy from them because they have proven themselves to be committed to customer satisfaction. Thanks Scott!

Oh Man!
WOW. This pipe is insane. I have to agree that this pipe was way bigger than I expected. Tonight I had a friend over and he had a pretty good sized cigar with him and I was only half way through the bowl when he finished! That being said, this pipe smokes as well as all cobs, cool and clean. The only issue I had was I got up to take care of something and the flame from my lighter didn't reach the tobacco, or at least not well enough to light, so I just got a bigger lighter :). All in all, this is a pipe for when you have a lot of time on your hands and want to really enjoy life. |
